Welcome!
Links
are located on the top and left sides of the pages in our web
site. Thayer's
Hotel was built in 1895,
as a Rail Road Hotel using funding from the Soo Line
Railroad, by Gus and Caroline Thayer. It
was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in
1978. It's been a haunted hotel for a very long time. The
first time my husband, Warren, and I walked into this building
in early 1993, I knew I had to have it - even though the place
was a mess; the outside porches were in need of some major repairs
plus the faded pink paint
was peeling. The inside spaces were dark,
dusty, dirty grey, dingy green and orange and everything was covered with an unhappy,
dreary, pallor. It was clear to me that Thayer's Hotel was not
being loved
at all. Right then, I knew I was drawn to this building
for a reason and that was to change all
that! After
meeting with the then owner, and doing a walk through of the building... on
the way home to Minneapolis, Warren took one look at me and he
knew I was captivated. Thayer's was the place I'd been talking about and looking
for since I'd sold my last restaurant in 1986. I
remember that he did still ask me, "Is this really
the one you want?" of course my answer was a resounding
"YES!" May
be it was the vision of the "working girls"
playfully leaning over the railings of Thayer's 'Old West' porches on the front of the
building. Maybe it was their call of "Hey! you wanna have some
fun?" that I heard. Maybe it was that I knew Thayer's
could once more be the beauty it was meant to be and I for
sure knew I needed
to be a part of it. Maybe it was the way I saw this gorgeous
haunted hotel loved and healthy again, maybe, just maybe it was all of
that and
more! What
ever it was that got
my attention...what ever
it was, that very first day... I knew Thayer's Hotel and I were
destined to be connected! So,
later in the spring of 1993, Warren and I made an offer, our
offer was
accepted, and a little while later, Thayer's Hotel stopped operating as a hotel and bar
and became my new home away from home and gradually became
Thayer's Historic Bed n' Breakfast ... the project
began... hours on the road, to Annandale and back to
Minneapolis at least 6 times a week for the first two years. I
was living in two places, spending hours at Thayer's cleaning and painting
inside and out side and hanging wall paper, and designing
and sewing, and moving furniture, and hours and hours and hours
plus we were open for business all the while!
The work and the effort was worth it...as you will see, my
home, Thayer's Historic Bed n' Breakfast, has the majesty and
character and love she is initialed to.
In 1996,
my husband Warren
was killed when another car drove head on into his; the pain
of his death had me wondering if I really wanted to finish
my project. I felt that I had to
make a decision to either stay in Annandale and finish what I
had started, or quit and move back to
Minneapolis. Skip the rest of the introduction,
Take me to the Guest rooms! I
decided to stay and finish. Today, Thayer's is my only home
and what a beautiful, well
loved, bright, cherry, finely appointed, home and award winning Bed and
Breakfast it is! Thayer's has turned out to be every bit that I had imagined it
could be, and much more. I
am truly proud to call Thayer's Historic Bed n' Breakfast my home and I am very pleased to
welcome you! By the
way, yes, Thayer's is
haunted! and, yes, I knew that the hotel was a haunted hotel,
the very first day I walked in. My husband Warren, Gus Thayer and his wife Caroline
Thayer
and
"the girls" visit
us regularly, as do many of their friends and customers - plus, we have a few
ghost kitties and a ghost mouse that stop in often.
Being constructed
as a three
story, wooden, balloon framed building in 1895, plus all
of the history this house holds and the unique western galleries (porches) on the front
of it, are some of the reasons Thayer's has the
privilege to be listed on the
National Register of Historic Places.
"Thayer's continues
to be a beautiful work in
progress... it has gone thru a number of changes
over the years... especially since 1993... that's when I got my hands on
it... Today, we have beautiful gardens, 11 gorgeous guest rooms, each with a full private
bath and there is a bright, light filled living room to relax
in, a game room filled with board games
and for entertaining friends, an elegant, comfortable,
Old West Victorian styled dining room that can easily seat
45 guests.
Some guest rooms
have claw footed tubs
with showers while others have double and single whirlpools. We have 6 guest
rooms with electric fireplaces. Every guest room has a comfortable
bed (most are Beauty Rest Exceptional pillow-topped
mattress sets) fine- fine
linens, air conditioning, a hair dryer
and upscale amenities.
Although I have authentic
Italian, Victorian and French antiques, they are antiques you
can sit on; guests have told me that they really like that
Thayer's is relaxed and homey, with a tranquil peace about it.
I have two friendly house kitties,
Mr. Tennessee, TN for short, and Miss Sadie Diva Cat; they let me live here.
I have a wonderful staff of
talented
people that help me keep things up to snuff, I get to do what
I love and I meet all different kinds of people from all over
the world; I have an awesome kitchen to cook in, out door gardens
that say, sit a while and relax, old photo's that remind all of
us of our rich history and enchanted guests, yep, ghosts and ghost kitties that visit and keep
all of entertained.
How much better can life be? I am so honored to be able
to call this Bed and Breakfast home, sometimes it takes my
breath away.
Thayer's is not an
ordinary award winning bed and breakfast; first off, we are
haunted, that makes this building a haunted hotel, I
guess... and then, by offering
customized retreats,
workshops and classes in psychic awareness development and paranormal study,
Ghost Hunting Packages, plus
Holiday teas, carriage rides, award winning Interactive Murder Mystery
Dinners, people tell me that makes Thayer's B&B stand out from
the rest of the crowd... plus we have a whole lot of fun
here!
I
take my psychic work seriously and I love what I do.
Providing a client with insight and a new look at some old
patterns is the stuff that makes me feel good! Looking into
options, talking to friends and pets on the other side, or
offering a different view of issues on this side, can most certainly
be helpful and
heart warming as well as uplifting for all of us.
In a psychic reading I
do not tell people how to live their life; I do offer
suggestions on how to make life work in a way that is fulfilling
and rewarding. If I happen to make a prediction during a
reading, that is what it is - a prediction. If you don't like
the prediction, change what you do today and you can change the
future outcome!
As you tour this virtual Thayer's Historic Bed
n' Breakfast, you will find many photographs and scenes from
my haunted house. Please, view with
caution... only a real world visit gives you a full Thayer's
B&B
experience. Reserve
your stay online
with our online secure site.
You are always welcome
to view my home... all it takes is an appointment. To set an appointment time, you
must call a day or two in advance. Sunday afternoons work the
best for a tour.
We hope you enjoy
our home as much as we do!" Sharon, Miss Sadie Cat,
Mr. Tennessee and Sam-Sam.
PS:
Sam-sam is my office cat, he loves people
but...he just can't seem to get along with TN and Sadie.
