General Ghost
Hunting Information applies to
All
Investigators,
Use and Apply
Common Sense:
-
If it is
raining, snowing or foggy and you are scheduled to do an out
door ghost hunt, reschedule it. You cannot conduct a
proper investigation in these conditions.
-
A
reasonable dose of skepticism is healthy; but when on an
investigation, you need to temper that with an open mind. You
could find more than you expect!
-
Be sensible; don’t smoke or use alcohol
or drugs when on an investigation.
-
Don’t wear perfume, aftershave, scented
hand lotions or hairspray. Sprits often use scents to get our
attention
-
Make sure to give your itinerary to someone
so, if you are not back at the expected time, someone can come
to get you.
Etiquette for
Investigators:
It is important to note that cemeteries are serious places and have
clear rules of etiquette.
-
If you want to visit private property ask permission first.
-
Many ghosts view “their” cemetery as
home. So remember, you don’t just walk into someone else’s
home without knocking first.
-
Most cemeteries have hours of operations posted.
Don’t
trespass. If you get locked in or get caught trespassing, it’s
your problem and you just might land in jail.
-
Make sure you have ID with you; incase you are questioned; you can
prove that you are who you are.
-
Making jokes, and loud
conversations, even if you are a little nervous, in a cemetery
is inappropriate behavior.
-
Not everyone believes in ghosts. You need
to be considerate and keep your voices down.
-
Remember people have many reasons to be in
a cemetery. It could be that someone is visiting a grave of a deceased loved one.
Be respectful.
-
If you are taking photos, ask the deceased
first. Your asking will get you further than just snapping away
will.
-
Pay attention to where you are walking and
if you do need to step on a grave, do it carefully.
-
Many cemeteries are very old and the
headstones are fragile. To read inscriptions, bring along a
halogen flashlight.
-
Food and treats don’t belong in a
cemetery, if you want to go on a picnic, go to the park.
-
Don’t move anything in a cemetery and
don’t take things. Ribbons, rocks, leaves, plants and flowers
have been put there for a reason and belong to someone else,
your photos and tapes will be souvenirs enough.
-
You will want to keep a record of your
findings-so make sure to have a notebook and pen or pencils, a
video, digital or 35 mm camera and tape recorder
-
Pets do not belong on a ghost hunt.
-
If you find litter,
you can pick it up and dispose of it. It's nice when
you leave a place you visit cleaner than you found
it.
Remember that we share this planet with
many things we don’t fully understand, your investigations can
help change that.
